This boat has been stored indoors most of its life and is a very good prospect for a cosmetic restoration. We have done several Philbrick boats for our clients. This one, because it is complete and original, would make a nice finished project. First thing I would recommend is a change of windshield to one of ours that is more vintage in character like the boat. I can see no obvious problems of structure in these pictures and the trailer it rides on is a good one. It is definitely in need of new upholstery and refinishing. Don Philbrick built his boats with plywood bottoms that can give fewer problems than plank bottom boats of the same vintage. If the engine checks out good, it can be reused but as in many of Don's boats they were usually over powered in my opinion. 1959 Chris Craft Sportsman - Make an offer - Call Dana
This 1955 21' Chris Craft Capri ( MFGR ID HULL NUMBER CP 21 - 111 ) is one I had been restoring and upgrading for myself. It has a new epoxy technology bottom and cold molded deck for elimination of 90% of the future maintenance, all done in my shop. The hullsides and hull framing are perfect. All planks are new lumber. It has been stained Standard Mahogany and base finish coated with UV Protected clear West System epoxy as a platform for eventual final finish of clear linear polyurethane to be sprayed. I received no engine or trailer when I bought the boat and I plan to install a multi port 330hp PCM GM marine engine (890 pounds) instead of what would have been original to the boat, a Chrysler Hemi V-8 @ 200 hp and 1400 Pounds. New electrical wiring is needed throughout and would be modernized with the new Engine and matching wire loom.
I consider this 1955 21' Capri now to be good for a couple of lifetimes.
It is expensive because of the extensive restoration to date and total epoxy
bottom replacement all done in my shop. It is also difficult to find a good
1955 21' Capri and that hull design handles the higher horsepower engines well
when re-powering up to that 330hp or more, lighter engine. One of the new 6L 375hp would also work nicely. To read FULL DETAILS click here to email Dana Phillips.
Tomahawk has been completely restored including new ‘WEST SYSTEM’ bottom. Since 2006 It lives in a controlled conditions warehouse environment on a Custom Built Tandem Trailer suitable for transport anywhere. Used exclusively at Lake Tahoe two or three months per year since restoration. With new bottom, storage out of water is no problem. Pictures are current and very representative of current condition.
